This session will discuss approaches for improving the diversity of the candidate pool for IT job openings in your area. We assume the audience understands the desirability of a diverse workforce and will discuss “How?” rather than “Why?”
Highlights will include strategies for crafting inclusive job descriptions, places to advertise your jobs to maximize visibility to diverse audiences, why 'soft skills' are important and how to include them in your job description, and tips for selecting interviewees and conducting the interview itself. We'll discuss topics such as, “Is it OK to Google candidates before an interview,” “Who should be on the interview committee?” and why “Not a good fit” is not a defensible reason for rejecting an interviewee. Attendees will leave with a sample job description designed to attract diverse applicants, suggestions on where to advertise, and a better understanding of diversity issues in IT hiring.
